Barton Library

Barton Library is one of the oldest libraries in Gujarat, with a collection of over 88,000 books in various languages. It is a great place to find information on a variety of topics, and the staff is always happy to help. The library is open to the public and is a great place to spend a quiet afternoon reading or studying.

The centre of learning, sharing and also for erstwhile Independence struggle. This library is not only an interesting historical institution but has huge contribution in creating the learned, modern 'Bahvnagaris'. Building has its own history and adorable architecture

Looks like the time of libraries has gone. The library is in bad condition, in monsoon water coming from the roof. Good to see a few people coming to read. Unfortunately the younger generation is not interested in reading. About 140 year old library,if someone can take it as a CSR project and revive it. It has a beautiful building and history to preserve.

The hermitage library is a very well maintained heritage site of Bhavnagar. The library is located in the town of Bhavnagar in Gujarat, India and contains multiple language books on a variety of topics from novels to short stories to newspapers.

(1)80000 books available ,.. (2)gujarati , hindi, English , sanskrit in language books. (3)Air conditioning are Good also brightness for reading.. (4) samyiko and different newspaper available for daily current questions in competitor exam..also many hastpreto available. (5)it's history also amazing..You have to visit and go for membership as good reader. (6)200 fee for registration.100 entry fee 200 deposit (gives back).. total 500 rupees for 1 year membership. You can carry book for 20 days Reading at home. (7) also life time (10 year) total 2500 rupees. You can carry book for 30 days reading at home. and samyik for 7 days. (8) after due date added 2 rupees per day. ..Thank you ..

Very impressive architecture but sadly library is of no use specially for a non gujarati people. Two untrained retired uncle taking care of library with zero supportive attitude. Trustees of library is unreachable even if you have authorised nation universities request letter. You cannot read the old books also you cannot access the 1st floor where all the old books are kept. disappointment! Total waste of time!

Visited this place out of curiosity after hearing a lot of about this historic library. Mind it, this is member ONLY library so make sure you confirm prior to entering the premises else the staff members would act rudely. No mention anywhere though. Contents wise it is like encyclopedia of Gujarati Sahitya so if you fond of reading in debth, this is the place.
